Job Description:
The computer Operator is responsible for monitoring multi-technology computing platforms including midrange, mainframe and servers. Operates and monitors systems consoles, initiates and monitors mainframe system backups, troubleshoots and restores routine technical services, researches and responds accordingly to applications, system hardware and software alerts. Monitors and controls production processing ensuring the highest level of system/resources availability and responding accordingly to service disruptions. Utilizes available tools and responds accordingly to network and remote site outages.
Responsibilities:
- Constantly monitors production jobs scheduling and execution using ControlM software.
- Proficiently, responds to production abends, performs abends recovery according to job restart
procedures.
- Operates with 99.9% error-free performance while scheduling / restarting jobs.
- Uses ControlD and ControlM to review each abend and documents all findings in the Incident
Management tickets.
- Competently uses Argent Defender software to resolve alerts, script, and implement automated
validations of URL based applications.
- Proficiently utilizes available monitoring tools, monitors and responds accordingly to application, server, and network alerts.
- Fully understands Data Center power infrastructure and coordinates emergency situations for local and remote sites.
- Responsible for content and accuracy of the information placed in the Change Requests and Incident Management tickets.
- Takes ownership for the accuracy & clarity of issues and escalations reported in the daily Turnover Report.
- Participates in the Change Review Board (CRB) meetings and coordinates Computing
- Networking Services Testing & Validation (CTV) for Microsoft Patches and all infrastructure
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields
- General knowledge of computer software including current Windows Operating System, Microsoft
- Office, Microsoft Outlook, Avocent, Argent Defender, Argent Client, Insight Manager, InfraStruXure
Management, ControlM, ControlD.
- Basic knowledge of Hardware Management Console and is able to perform system Initial Program
- Loads (IPL), Power On Resets (POR), and system time change.
- Intermediate knowledge of TMONMVS, JES and MVS commands used to display and modify the status of system tasks.
- Must have excellent written & oral communication skills and be able to work in a team
environment.
- Must be very flexible and be able to provide coverage for co-workers vacation requests and
emergency outages.
