The coolest thing about my job is that I have the creative freedom over my projects! I handle our TikTok account, so suggesting funny trends we can try and asking my teammates to be in our videos is always so entertaining

What's your job about?

I handle employer branding for Security Bank Corporation, one of Philippines’ major local banks. As a recruitment marketing manager, I am handling our company’s presence on platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and – newly launched this year – TikTok! I work hand-in-hand with our digital marketing team and corporate communications team to ensure that the content we upload on our external platforms are aligned with our brand’s voice and company culture. My usual day starts with checking on requests from our talent acquisition partners regarding job ads that they would like to be posted either internally to SBC employees or externally through our social media platforms. If there are any requests that need to be processed, I create graphics and write up captions for their approval before readying the ad for posting. I also manage the Security Bank Careers TikTok account so depending on the day, I could be shooting content or editing and endorsing to the digital marketing team for upload. I also handle various projects – including hiring events (we did a Metro Manila Career Day last August 2024!) and programs. Most of my day would be spent doing project management and aligning with stakeholders on action items.

What's your background?

I was born in the Philippines but spent most of my childhood in Texas, USA. I moved back to the Philippines at the age of 11 and started studying in De La Salle Canlubang (now known as Laguna Campus) from 6th grade up until graduation. After graduating, I continued my Lasallian education by enrolling to De La Salle University in Taft, Manila. I graduated with a degree in AB Psychology and did my internship with Shopee Philippines under their People (HR) Team. My first few years after graduation were during the pandemic so jobhunting was definitely a difficult task. I was lucky enough to be considered for a full-time position at Shopee again as a recruiter! I gained my first real work experience with Shopee and after 1.5 years, I decided to challenge myself by moving to a start-up company – edamama Philippines. For edamama, I was also handling end-to-end recruitment as well as engagement and employer branding. Quickly I realized that marketing, content creation, and branding were truly where my interests lied, and I decided that I would look for opportunities in employer branding as a transitional role (since I see it as a mix of marketing and recruitment!). Security Bank Philippines had the perfect role for me and I was so excited to take on their offer for a Recruitment Marketing Manager! I’ve now been with them for half a year and I am genuinely enjoying every single day with Security Bank.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes! The great thing about creative roles is as long as you have the drive and passion for creativity, you can excel! I think for someone to succeed in an employer branding or recruitment marketing role, they need to be social media-savvy and eager to share ideas with others. It’s important that they are also data-driven and keeping a close eye on current trends.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The coolest thing about my job is that I have the creative freedom over my projects! I handle our TikTok account so suggesting funny trends we can try and asking my teammates to be in our videos is always so entertaining. Don’t get me wrong – you can love your job and still feel burnt out at times! But the great thing is when I feel unmotivated, I have a great support system within my team that I know I can always rely on. My lead also reminds us to prioritize our personal well-being – because if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t put your 100% into your work and projects!

What are the limitations of your job?

Since my role relies a lot on creativity and the ability to come up with new ideas, it is easy to feel burnt out – especially when you feel like you can’t think of anything great. If I start to feel a creativity block, I like to take a step back and take care of myself first because it could just stem from other factors like lack of sleep, not eating properly, or just a bad mental health day. I also like to speak with my teammates and my lead to share their ideas and sooner or later, the spark comes back and I’m up and kicking again!

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...

I would tell my younger self to:

  1. Put yourself out there more! Don’t be afraid of going against the norm or standing out in the crowd. Don’t be afraid of rejection and change.
  2. Start building good habits as early as possible. Don’t wait until New Year’s or until you’re at a certain age. Start now!
  3. Challenge yourself with new hobbies or try something you’ve never done before. The sooner you learn what you don’t like, the sooner you learn what you do!
