The Story of Makati Medical Center

In 1969, several renowned Filipino doctors and businessmen decided to establish a world-class medical facility in Makati. At that time, Makati was just beginning to rise as a premier business district. The plan required a modern hospital to provide health services to the community, and hence Makati Medical Center was built.

The funds for the construction were obtained from doctors and other professionals who had the same dream. They also sent an emissary to scout for more investors in the United States.

Makati Medical Center was formally opened to the public on May 31, 1969. Year after year, it gains a reputation as a world-class healthcare provider for Filipinos. On May 31, 2019, MakatiMed celebrated its golden anniversary of serving the Filipino and global community.

It has been known for the integration of technological innovations in its operations. Two of the groundbreaking innovations it initiated in the healthcare industry are MakatiMed On-Call and TomoTherapy treatment. MakatiMed On-Call is the first hospital-based call center in the country, launched in 2010.

TomoTherapy treatment is a revolutionary cancer care with the latest form of image-guided radiation therapy. Launched in 2012, the treatment is able to reduce many common side effects related to radiation treatment.
